Tatenda Shamiso

Tatenda Shamiso is a writer, director and live performance maker with origins from Zimbawbe, Belgium, the United States and Switzerland. A self-proclaimed “lil homie with loads of Black trans pride,” Shamiso’s work endeavors to make the strange feel familiar, generating empathy and laughter across cultural divides. He received the 2024 Arts Foundation Futures Award for Theatre Writing and the Evening Standard Theatre Award in Emerging Talent for his solo show NO I.D. which was performed at the Royal Court Theatre in 2023.

Tatenda is also a lecturer and facilitator in theatre-making and script writing. He has led workshops, courses and talks in institutions including Goldsmiths, University of London, Cambridge University’s Black Creatives Festival, the Almeida Theatre and Theatre Royal Stratford East. He was also an Associate Artist and Black/Global Majority Associate Researcher in the Goldsmiths Theatre and Performance Department in 2021-22.
